TheMorton Gym is an elevated fitness space defined by its raw and unfinished edges. With exposed ductwork and concrete floors adding an element of industrial charm, the gym shines most in its details of articulated metal railings and custom wood and leather features. Ultimately, the gym is not just a place to exercise, but an immersive space that transforms the act of taking care of one’s body into a rewarding and meditative ritual.
The industrial feel of the space echoes the building's overall design aesthetic, and the materials used invoke the kind of fierce energy required to achieve health and fitness goals. Each detail was considered to create an environment that inspires and motivates its users. We also took great care to select durable and long-lasting materials that could withstand constant use without losing their appeal, like metals chosen for their potential unique patina.
In the day, natural light pours through the massive windows, filling the gym with peaceful energy. As the sun sets, the view of downtown Salt Lake City is captivating, and gym-goers will find themselves often staring out the windows, feeling inspired and energized by the city’s dynamic and abundant nightlife to the Western horizon.
The ground floor of TheMorton Gym is a spacious and visually stunning environment that exudes industrial charm. The open layout creates a sense of vastness, with exposed concrete floors and exposed ductwork adding a touch of raw beauty. To allow for light and air to flow freely throughout the gym, visually striking slatted stairs lead guests between the two levels. Underneath the stairs, we were able to create storage for exercise mats and a seating area with a custom leather cushion that brings together the surrounding materials in a seamless and skillful way.
On the second floor, stationary bikes are positioned in a way that offers a truly spectacular view of the Salt Lake City skyline. Residents can take the second-floor elevators straight home after their workouts, making it easy to seamlessly integrate fitness into their daily routines.
